A Shoulder to Lean On

A Shoulder to Lean on

I can fight my way through any hard time

Any storm, even a tornado

Because I have a practical mind

And that helps me focus

But sometimes

Despite my ability,

Strength and fortitude

Just sometimes…

I would like to be the one saved

Have a shoulder to lean on

Know that someone has my back

Why can’t it be you?

Why isn’t it ever you?

Why?

  1. This struck a chord with me. It's gratifying to be the reliable one, but what happens when you need a bit of support? Who will save the hero? Great work, Kate.

  3. Love this! Your poem could serve as an anthem for most of the helping professionals I know. I know that *I* can certainly relate.

Sometimes, especially with many of my friends and colleagues, I wonder if I have a sign on my back saying "Help here for YOUR life - mine needs nothing from anybody, so don't offer." Why, indeed?
